2/7/2009 - Inclement Weather Policy PDF Print E-mail

If there is a need to close church during inclement weather for ANY service, meeting, or practices, we will handle it as follows...

When the decision is made all council members will be notified.  After that is done the announcement will be called into WHTM 27 news and our church will appear as Big Spring ULC.  If you do not see it on TV and still have questions as to whether or not there is a closing, you can call a council member.

1/22/2009 - BSULC 2008 Building Committee PDF Print E-mail

The past year the building committee has met with McCoy Brothers, Inc. and Architect Bob Cianfichi each month.  The ground breaking was March 30, 2008 and well attended by church members and others who are interested in our church development.  The church project has progressed from the land excavating requirements to the structural steel frame and foundation, septic system, and electrical connections.  Roofing is scheduled for January.  Due to the 2008 economic situation some of the building details were delayed.  Our proposed first Christmas service for December 2008 was delayed.  Our hopes now are that the first service will be Easter or late spring.  Other factors have been setback to include meeting all the rules and regulations from the federal state, county, and township.  We believe we have now met all of the requirements.

Organ and pews from St. Paul are in storage at the Big Spring Pharmacy in Newville.  Arrangements have been made to have both relocated to our new church and professionally installed when the time comes.  Sound systems are being evaluated, carpeting has been determined, the baptismal font has been designed and sanctuary lights selected.  The attached food bank building has received grant money for furnishings.  The committee is currently looking at freezers and coolers to be installed.  The food bank will be a most important part of our outreach and benefit to the community.  2009 will be a cornerstone for Big Spring United Lutheran Church.  With the help and support of everyone we will see new life and hope for our future.  Let’s all pull together.

Children and youth teachers are Pat Belden, Suelyn Reisinger, and Connie Cornman.  Kris Zeigler does the children’s opening, special music, and events such as Rally Day.  We had a western/cowboy theme for Rally Day this year.  Trent and Lauren Anderson were very instrumental in our successful Bible School in June with the Bloserville Fellowship.  We had two adult classes with Jerry Clouse teaching from the Augsburg Adult Bible Studies and Pastor Jean leading a discussion from What It Means to Be a Lutheran.  Later the classes were combined as we studied the Islam religion and interviewed several interesting gust Muslim speakers.
